Jason K PRO Infinity Member since 2007 I'm not real happy with the sound quality I'm getting either. It always sounds terrible when I first fire it up, but seems to get a bit better as it get's warm. I've been thinking about using a second sound card so I can just use the ns7 as a control surface. Mar 17, 2016 Serato vs DJay Pro? Appleteam 3:19 AM - 28 February, 2016 So I have recently discovered Djay pro and the idea seems really cool because it will help a lot with requests and your music library is pretty much endless. The metallic, tin-like sound you may hear in your audio is an unwelcome annoyance. All audio editing platforms like Audacity, Adobe Audition, and AVID have tools to help, but it’s not a sure fix. In Audacity, which is a free open source audio recording and editing.
There are a couple of reason why your precious record is skipping. Some of these reasons include debris, dust, worn out stylus or unbalanced turntable’s arm. Luckily, these issues can be fixed easy without much money and effort.
Unfortunately, skipping that is caused by visible scratches on the record will be very difficult to fix and may be irreparable. Getting a better record player by doing your research is the best option because it is usually the cheap products that cause skipping.
For the Repairing Process You Will Need The Following
The first thing you should do is find where the record is skipping and replay that part a few times to identify the troublesome spot. Knowing where the problems reside is a crucial step in fixing the record with ease.
A magnifying glass can make your job a lot easier.
Remove the record by touching it only by the edges. Put your thumb on the outside edge and middle finger on the label to prevent dirt and oils on the record’s surface.
By using a magnifying glass, you can examine the vinyl and find where the problem is. Look for dust that is embedded in the grooves and for any visible scratches. You will know if there are scratches with the magnifying glass. Make sure to remove any surface dirt by using a lint-free cloth.
Furthermore, use tap water to rinse off the record and use a mild dish washing liquid for stubborn dirt. The best choice is to use distilled water and try not to get the record label wet, or it might peel off. Let it dry before playing it. You can use air drying or soft towel to make this process faster. Wet playing will totally damage it so be patient and make sure that the grooves are dry.
Use a wooden toothpick to remove any dirt particles remaining in the groove. Push the dust out of the spot carefully without applying much pressure.
Now test the record and if it’s skipping, then the problem might be from the stylus. If it’s worn out, then you will have to replace it. If the problem continues, then you will need an experienced professional to balance your tone arm or find a different solution.
Tips & WarningsVinyl Sound Driver
Make sure to practice proper cleaning and maintaining for your vinyl records, and the skipping should never be a problem!
Vinyl records, while not the most durable forms of media in the world, are still collected and played today because of their unique sound when in good condition. Over the years, records can deteriorate quite a bit, and if played on a turntable in this condition, could produce loud pops and clicks over your speakers. In years past, this problem was extremely difficult, if not impossible, to eliminate completely. However, with modern digital audio and audio editing programs, learning how to remove pop and clicks and other unwanted sounds from your recording is as easy as ever. For this example I will be using a free to donwload audio editing program called Audacity.
You can download Audacity for yourself (Windows / Mac) from the following site: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
Before you can edit the audio, you first need to digitize the LP to the computer. This can be easily accomplished by taking your record through our Vinyl Record to CD service, digitizing your audio as raw WAV, as well as having a copy of your record on a 100-year archival CD. You could also do the transfer from home by purchasing a new USB turntable from Amazon, which connects right into the back of your computer and allows you to record right from Audacity.
Once your LP has been digitized in WAV format, it’s now time to edit out the unwanted pops and clicks. From the file menu in Audacity, select Open, and find the WAV file of your LP that you wish to edit. Once it’s loaded up on the timeline, you should see something like this:

If you notice, you’ll see long veritcal lines throughout the song. These peaks are the actual pops and clicks that are heard in the recording. We need to attempt to remove these vertical lines from the recording to make it sound much more clean at louder volumes.
To remove pop/clicks from the entire recording, you can do this by pressing CTRL-A, or select all from the edit menu. Once the track is selected, click on Effect->Click removal.
Usually, I’ve found that the default threshold values work fine most of the time, but feel free to play around wih them a bit to get the sound you desire. When you set the threshold, you can preview it before applying. When finished, press OK and the filter will now be applied to the whole track.
Keep in mind that this fix will not work for EVERY situation, but should work for the vast majority of audio with popping and clicking noises throughout.
